Nice Juniata River spring time smallmouth bass caught on a "YUM Dinger"
My first four casts of the year yielded 3 Smallmouth Bass and one missed opportunity. A nice way to kick off the year. After that however I couldn'’t buy a bite. The fish were 12"”, 14”", and 15.5”" respectively. All came on a 5"” YUM Dinger. What I thought was going to be a banner day quickly turned south but it was a great day out with my fishing partner. He managed one 12"” smallie on the same bait as above.
Pattern
All the fish came from major current breaks around bridge pilings in about 3-4 feet of water. Bottom composition was mix of chunk rock and gravel.
Tried hitting some deeper eddies and some softer bottom areas but as I suspected it was a no go...no fish.
Weather
Sunny blue bird day. Very windy
Water Conditions
I'm not sure about the water temp my guess is in the mid 50's.
